Sift: sugar, flour, salt, cocoa powder and baking soda. into an ungreased 8×8″ pan.
Stir around in pan until well mixed.
Then add: vinegar, vanilla, oil and cold water.
Stir mix around in the pan until no lumps remain, making sure to get into the corners of the pan.
Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out of the center dry.
~May add chocolate or carob chips, nuts, etc. as desired. Can be eaten and enjoyed just plain or topped with cherry pie filling and whipped cream (or whipped cream substitute).
Combine butter (or substitute) sugar and milk (or substitute) in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
Remove from heat and add the coconut and/or chopped nuts.
Spread on hot wacky cake and broil until the topping is beginning to brown.
