Cheddar Cheese Grits
Ingredients
- 2 ½ C. Water
- 1 ¼ C. Milk
- 1 C. Quick Grits not instant
- 1 tsp. Salt
- ¼ tsp. Pepper
- 1 C. Extra Sharp Cheese shredded
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil in a heavy saucepan.
- Add milk and re-heat. Slowly stir in the quick grits; add the slat and pepper.
- Stir everything except the cheese together in a heavy pan; bring to a slow boil, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat and cook, covered, another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheese.
- Serve hot with hot sauce to add as desired.
Notes
May make without the cheese, or may also add 1 beaten egg, turn into a buttered casserole dish and bake 25-30 min. till browned and bubbly.
